WOMEN WHO KILL – CHANNEL 4 (Wild Pictures)
SENIOR PRODUCER/ EDIT PRODUCER
This two-part true crime series told the stories of American women convicted of murder.
9 out of 10 female murderers know their victims, as opposed to 1 in 10 men.The first episode unpicked this stat through three interwoven stories. The 2nd episode explored the much rarer phenomenon of women who kill for money, so-called Black Widows.
Driven by jailhouse interviews with the perpetrators - as well as actuality/ interviews with their families and children, and the families of their victims – these emotionally powerful films examine the complex lives that led up to these murders.
I devised and developed the series, eventually winning the commission by gaining access to women in max security prisons across 4 US states. I then produced the 7 week shoot in America, and edit produced the 2nd episode.
PRESS
‘Women Who Kill wisely resisted making any judgments or coming to any conclusions…it put one thing across forcefully: every murder, however typical, is also unique, based on peculiar circumstances.’ Tim Dowling, The Guardian.
